Be Different , Not Ordinary By Hadiqa Batool
The human race has been given several names. We are associated with several things around us. This is because human beings are complex and difficult to understand. We are just like a book with different coloured covers, but what is written inside is known to few people.
Each one of us is unknowingly the writer of our own stories. We all have gone through thick and thin and have endured crude realities of life. Yet only a few of us are there who practice empathy and care around other people with sincere intentions.
Sometimes, not every individual can be blamed for their behavior. Most of the time the whole society is to be blamed. Look around you. We are all living in a competitive, technological era where everybody is fighting to survive. Some are fighting to reach the top of the hierarchy in a firm, whereas others are fighting to remain adamant in an already established market of skilled labour. Hence most of us have lost our true personality.
We are what our surroundings make us. Our environment indeed has a great impact on our mental health. Whatever is sown in our brains eventually reveals itself, later in life. The actual question is: why do we not try to sow something different. Instead of sowing seeds of toxicity or a self-centered personality, why do we not try to plant empathy and start being grateful? Why not let our path transform us into a person who is unique yet understanding of others.
It is indeed a fact that there are many people out there who need us. They need someone to listen, someone to console them and appreciate them. Some have lost their way and now have a firm belief that there is nothing worth living for. Why not use our energy to make them realize that they have a purpose to look forward to and that many like us are there to support them.
It is a harsh reality but not everyone reveals themselves. Not everyone loves to come to the spotlight and show others what they are going through.
There are millions out there who are pissed under the rubble of society’s pressure. We never know whether the person sitting beside us is having a good day or not. Hence if we have got people in our life, it becomes our duty to keep a check on them, and stand with them, against those who have wronged them. It becomes our duty to listen to their stories and try to console and appreciate them.
In the end, we all are an asset to society. When we, as individuals, will empathize with others, the society will evolve as an entity that will take on discussions related to mental health, and not disregard it as a taboo.
Let’s be different and see the change.
